It's such a beautiful day today, we are going to the beach this evening again, I guess, because we can. When the weather is like this, living by the sea has some kind of cosmic lure. Makes me want to go every day.
I was lucky enough to have the most wonderful weekend. Rather uncharacteristically we did a little family exercise on Saturday morning where we all wrote a list of things that made us happy. One list was made up of things that were completely free, one list things that cost a little money and the final one, things that cost a lot of money. For all four of us, the longest and fullest lists were the things that were free. Interesting. The beach featured highly, as did family time, cooking good food, enjoying the happiness of others. Just seeing friends. Taking time. It made me see what a strange thing happiness is - does one ever achieve it as a constant state? Or is it the case of spending time, in fact making the time, to do things that provoke a feeling of happiness? When we all showed each our lists, there were some surprises, illustrating that even when you think you know what makes a child tick, sometimes you don't. A life lesson if you will...
P.S. I am guest posting over at Sophie's lovely blog: 'The Littlest Things', ironically on the things that make me happy...
